Experienced apprentice
THE ROLE:
We’re looking for an experienced apprentice to join our team and finish their apprenticeship working with our talented team. At least three years’ experience required.
REPORTS TO:
Builders, site foreman, projects manager, general manager
NORMAL WORK HOURS:
Permanent, full time, average 44 hours per week

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The apprentice is responsible for a range of manual, managerial and administrative responsibilities, which may include:
Training Requirements:
Be an active and committed learner
Abide by terms and conditions of the Apprentice Training Contract with the training provider
Commit to and complete the endorsed training plan in the time allocated. Make every effort to successfully complete training plan and commit to the training required off-the-job, including any off-site and out-of-hours study.
Attend vocational training; complete theory-based assessments and demonstrate skills through competency-based assessments to the best of your ability
Communicate clearly and openly with the employer, industry training organisation and any training providers. Good communication ensures the employer and industry training organisation become aware of any problems or concerns the apprentice has with their training.
On the Job Requirements:
Be an active member of the team, respecting fellow employees and the employer’s customers
Be professional: upholding the company’s reputation for safety, quality, provision of sound professional advice and fair dealing
Carrying out a range of carpentry disciplines in a tradesman like manner, under the supervision of the employer, site supervisor, or other qualified employee with delegated responsibility for the Apprentices’ learning. Activities may include but are not limited to: excavation, concrete, carpentry, roofing, gib fixing, precast panel work etc
Taking an active role in Health & Safety and supporting the site supervisor to ensure that H&S procedures are followed at all times.
Maintaining a clean and tidy work area, and looking after workplace property and resources
A specific list of key tasks and duties may at times accompany your areas of responsibility. These will be reviewed periodically and may change from time to time.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Essential criteria:
At least three years’ experience as an apprentice carpenter
A current, Class 1 New Zealand drivers licence of at least a restricted provision, preferably full provision.
A willingness to develop skills and knowledge in this trade
The ability to listen, follow instructions, retain skills or processes learnt and ask for help when necessary
The desire to make a positive contribution to the workplace by being punctual, interested and adhering to workplace policies and procedures
Develop an effective working relationship with your BCITO Training Advisor through regular communication and participation in field visits
Desirable:
First Aid and CPR training
Experience safely using and caring for manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
Special requirements
This is a physically strenuous and demanding job that includes lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects. The candidate will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold.
Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 25kgs unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
May be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells, or at times exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances. The candidate must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection
May work at heights or in confined spaces

Good maths skills.

Determined with strong problem-solving skills. Focuses on solutions rather than problems by identifying issues, gathering and processing relevant information, generating possible solutions, and making recommendations and/or resolving the problem.
