QUALIFIED CARPENTER


THE ROLE:

To work as a qualified carpenter progressing to Site Foreman, providing the trade skills, knowledge, experience and competency to undertake carpentry work in the construction of light commercial and residential buildings to company quality standards.

REPORTS TO:

Projects Manager, General Manager

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Apprentices, clients, council inspectors, subbies

NORMAL WORK HOURS:

Full time, average 44 hours per week

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The carpenter is responsible for a range of manual, managerial and administrative responsibilities, which may include:

  • Upholding the company’s values of integrity, growth, teamwork and creativity

  • Carrying out all tasks/operations of carpentry in a tradesman like manner at all times. These may include but are not limited to excavation, concrete, carpentry, roofing, gib fixing, precast panel work etc.

  • Taking an active role in Health & Safety (H&S) and supporting the site supervisor to ensure that H&S procedures are followed at all times

  • Assist with calculating quantities and costs, and purchasing building materials

  • Assisting with the training and mentoring of apprentices

  • Utilising trade skills, knowledge and experience to complete the works adequately the first time to eliminate any rework requirements

  • Maintaining a clean and tidy work area

  • Complying with Resource Management Act with regards to noise and use and disposal of chemicals.

  • Other duties not unreasonably asked of the employee.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

The employee is required to maintain the following:

  • LBP licence

  • Own tool kit as per the Schedule

  • A current, full, Class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence

  • First Aid and CPR training

  • Proficient knowledge of current regulatory practices and industry best practices regarding Workplace Health and Safety in NZ

  • Proficient knowledge of current regulatory standards for construction in NZ particularly NZS:3604.

  • Must be able to safely use and care for manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.

  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures

  • Must have the ability to read building specifications, plans and as-builds

  • Quantify and order site materials
